RockCulture

A magazine concept that treats rock as an attitude rather than a genre. The layout carries the story: rough type, broken grids and a strict red, black and white palette.

Academic editorial concept

Rock Culture magazine lying on a wooden stool in dappled light, red brushstroke artwork on a white cover

Challenge

Translate rebellion, identity and tension into an editorial system that still reads — chaos, held together by a grid.

Maria’s contribution

  • Magazine concept, cover and spreads
  • Experimental grids and typographic hierarchy
  • Image treatment limited to red, black and white

01Spreads

The grid shifts from spread to spread — from a rigid perspective frame to text and image that break out of it.

Opening spread: a hand-drawn perspective grid with small red portraits on the left, the cover with large R, O, C, K letters and a red spiral on the right
